ARC Review: The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi

OMG thank you SO MUCH to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for letting me read the Silvered Serpents so early! It doesn’t come out until September 2020, but man, y’all need to pre-order it now and wish for September to get here faster.

The Silvered Serpents 5/5 stars

Summary from Goodreads: They are each other’s fiercest love, greatest danger, and only hope.

Séverin and his team members might have successfully thwarted the Fallen House, but victory came at a terrible cost one that still haunts all of them. Desperate to make amends, Séverin pursues a dangerous lead to find a long lost artifact rumored to grant its possessor the power of God.

Their hunt lures them far from Paris, and into icy heart of Russia where crystalline ice animals stalk forgotten mansions, broken goddesses carry deadly secrets, and a string of unsolved murders makes the crew question whether an ancient myth is a myth after all.

As hidden secrets come to the light and the ghosts of the past catch up to them, the crew will discover new dimensions of themselves. But what they find out may lead them down paths they never imagined.

A tale of love and betrayal as the crew risks their lives for one last job.

Oh my god- I LOVED the Gilded Wolves, and I LOVED the Silvered Serpents even more, which I definitely didn’t think would be possible. Roshani does it again with her amazing lyrical prose and great characters. I was even more invested in the story of our favorite misfit gang. The plot in this book took us in new directions and wooowwww that ending. It makes me a little annoyed that I read it so early since I have SO MUCH longer to wait until the next book comes out (but only a little annoyed, because it was so good!).

I felt like we really built on our characters this book. Severin is taking what happened in book one really hard and it’s impacted the way he comes across to his team and the way they see him. Hypnos grew into a character I really loved. All he wants it to be a part of the group! Enrique broke my heart in a few parts. Zofia is still one of my favorites and I love her. Laila is still my absolute favorite, but man, I really just wanted to shake her at points. We got a new character in this book who I wasn’t super sure of at the beginning, but as the story went on, I didn’t really like. I’m not going to say anymore about said character because I don’t want to give anything away, but when y’all read it, let me know if you know who I’m talking about and if you feel the same way as me.

All in all, the Silvered Serpents was an amazing sequel to the Gilded Wolves and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!
