Hello December! This is one of my favorite months of the year because the holiday spirit is so much fun! Christmas isn’t even my holiday (my family is Hindu, so our biggest holiday of the year, Diwali, is normally in either October or November, depending on the lunar calendar), but I love the way it’s been commercialized over the years and I love the decorations and the food and the drinks and the fuzzy socks! Like I have santa fuzzy socks, reindeer fuzzy socks, Christmas tree fuzzy socks, polar bear fuzzy socks, etc (it’s close to a problem…). I’ve already made an ornament wreath to decorate the mantle and I’m going to putting up the Christmas tree sometime this week! I love eggnog (but don’t put any rum in mine, because the smell of rum makes me gag- one too many bad experiences as a young 20 something year old) and spiced cider and hot chocolate- especially peppermint hot chocolate! And Christmas cookies! I love all the Christmas cookies!
Now that you’ve heard me gush about how much I love December and the holiday season, let’s talk about something else I’m really excited for this month- reading. I’m back into the swing of things reading wise (was I ever really out of it?) and I have so many books to read and so little time to read them (aka only 29 more days)! Thankfully, I’ve already blown my 2020 Goodreads goal out of the water (which is both a good and a bad thing, because I had purposefully lowered it this year to try and focus on other things, like dating and making new friends, but the pandemic 100% killed that, so I ended up reading more books than I’ve ever read before, and I still have a whole month left to go), so I’m not targeting a specific number of books this month, but I do have some ARCs I need to get through, some rereads I want to do, and a few library books to get to, so let’s get started on my TBR!
Warmaidens– I read Gravemaidens last year and I loved it, so I’m so excited to read Warmaidens! This book comes out on December 15, so look for my review on or around then!
Don’t Look Back– I was invited to read and review an e-ARC for this one, and it’s an action romance, which I’ve been super into this year, so I’m very excited about that. This also comes out on the 15th, so look for my review to come out around then!
Ten Rules For Faking It– It looks like the pub date for this one got pushed up a little! I thought it was supposed to come out in January, but it’s actually coming out in late December (December 29th, to be exact). I’m really excited about this one, because it looks like it’s going to be a super fun rom-com, plus who doesn’t love the drama of the Bachelorette? Look for my review around the end of the month!
Those are the only ARCs that I have to get done in December, but I also want to read these ones too:
Lore– Ahhhhh!!!! I have been looking forward to Lore ever since Alex Bracken started talking about her mysterious project and her writing process for it over on her Instagram stories. I love Alex Bracken so much and I loved the sampler I read of Lore, so I cannot wait to read this ARC (which is why I’m probably going to pull it into this month for my TBR). Lore comes out on January 5th, so my review for it could come either at the end of this year or early next year.
Crown of Bones– I’m reviewing this one for Entangled Teen and it looks like it’s going to be a good one! This also comes out on January 5th, so that’s why I might try and pull it into my December reading list. My review for this one should be out on or around January 5th.
Cast in Firelight– Ahhh I’m so excited to be a part of the blog and Instagram tour for this one with TBR and Beyond Tours! I’ve worked with them for a couple of other tours and they’re so great, so this should be super fun, and Cast in Firelight looks like it’s going to be an incredible book, so I cannot wait to read it! My stop on the tour isn’t until January 18, so I may not get to this one in December, but if I do, it’s so that I can get ahead, because looking ahead at what January’s already shaping up to look like, I know it’s going to be a busy month! Be on the lookout for my stop on the tour on January 18th!
Soul of Cinder– Ahhh I’m part of the Terminal Tours Soul of Cinder blog tour and I’m really excited about that too! I haven’t read any of these books yet and Soul of Cinder is book 3 in this series, so you’ll see books one and two lower down in my list- we’ll see if I get to all three of them in December, but my stop on this tour isn’t until January 19th, so I have some time.
Lightbringer– I was so disappointed by Kingsbane, but I need to know how this story ends, so I’m reading Lightbringer right now and it’s due back to the library in like 2 days, so I have to speed read my way through it. Hopefully I’ll have good news to report in either a review or in my wrap up at the end of the month.
Crazy Stupid Bromance– I meant to get to this one in November and it just didn’t happen, so let’s see what happens in December… here’s to hoping! I really liked book one in the series and book two was good too, so I’m thinking I’ll like book three as well.
Red Skies Falling– Ah yes, another one I meant to get to in November and another one that just didn’t happen… I’m trying to remember what all I did in November that took away from reading time. I cooked a lot and I went to outdoor cycling classes, but neither of those things were during my reading time- I bet I just goofed off on TikTok or Instagram instead of reading. Good thing I deleted TikTok from my phone- less distractions this month.
The Queen’s Assassin– I have been so excited about this book for a very long time, but I just haven’t had a chance to read it yet! I requested the ARC of book 2 on Netgalley though and I grabbed the ebook of the Queen’s Assassin from the library, so now I have to read it in the next 19 or so days.
The Inheritance Games– This book reminds me of Knives Out and man, I freaking loved that movie, so I’m super excited to read this book! I have to finish Lightbringer first (by Friday) so I can take it into the library and then I can pick up my hold for the Inheritance Games (my hold expires on December 5th, so that’s why Friday is my deadline for finishing Lightbringer haha).
A Torch Against the Night– Ah yes, my Ember reread- this needs to get done so I can get to Sky, and Torch is both my favorite and my least favorite of the three I’ve read. I’m super excited to revisit it though- I just need to get to it!
A Reaper at the Gates– I love, love, love Reaper. So much happens in this book and it’s so incredibly good and ahhh I know that when I’m done rereading it, it’ll be time to read Sky, which is both exhilarating and terrifying.
A Sky Beyond the Storm– Ahhh Sky- my copy came in yesterday and it makes me so happy! I know it’ll be at least a couple of weeks before I get to it (I’m being super ambitions to even think I can get through these three Ember books plus 18 other books…)
The Gilded Wolves– I have wanted to do this reread for so long since I read the Gilded Wolves back in, what, late 2018? If anything’s going to drop this month though, it’ll probably be this reread (unfortunately), but that’s because I’ll save it and do it when I have book three (hopefully I get an ARC of that one like I did with book one and two!!!)
The Silvered Serpents– Yeah, I read the Silvered Serpents in late 2019, so wayyyy before it came out and it was incredible. By far one of my favorite books of the year, so I definitely need to reread it, but if anything’s going to have to drop, it’ll have to be the Silvered Serpents and the Gilded Wolves.
Heart of Thorns– Since I’m on the blog tour for book three, I have to read books one and two! I wanted to read this the year it came out, but it just never happened. Terminal Tours said that the publisher is providing us with copies of books one and two, so I’m excited about that.
Tears of Frost– This is book two, so gotta read book one before I get to it and gotta read both books one and two before I get to book three for my blog tour!
Tools of Engagement– I really wanted to get to this last month, and I’m sure if I had started reading it sometime last month, I would have finished it in an evening or I would have ended up staying up super late to finish it (because these books are just that good), but I just didn’t start it. My hope is to do it this month though!
The Storm Crow– I’m currently listening to the audiobook of this one while I knit my brother a scarf for Christmas (maybe if the scarf photographs well, I’ll add some pictures of it to my wrap up at the end of the month….) and I’m liking it so far! I’ve been liking books about riding giant birds recently.
So that’s a total of 21 books right now, and I’m 99.9% sure I won’t be able to read all 21 of them, so we’ll see what I can actually get through and what ends up being added/subtracted from this list, but y’all I’m excited! What all are you planning on reading in December? Anything specifically that you’re really looking forward to?
