Review: To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before by Lizzie Shane

Happy Monday y’all! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was way too short (as usual), but enjoyable! I didn’t get as much reading done as I wanted to nor did I write any of the reviews that I wanted to, but I guess that’s what the week’s for, right?

Anyway, on to today’s review! I’m obsessed with the Pine Hollow books by Lizzie Shane- I read all three of them so quickly during the time I had off around Christmas and New Years (feel free to read my reviews for book 1, The Twelve Dogs of Christmas, and book 2, Once Upon a Puppy, before you read my review for this one) and man y’all they were so good! I cannot wait to read book four when it comes out this year! As always, thank you so much to the wonderful folks at Forever for sending me a copy of To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before- y’all are the best!

To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before 4.5/5 Stars

Summary from Goodreads:

First love gets a second chance when a mischievous dog finds a way to keep fetching the town librarian’s high school sweetheart in this charming small-town romance.

The last person librarian Elinor Rodriguez wants to spend time with is her first love, Levi Jackson, but it seems her mischievous rescue dog has other ideas. Without fail, Dory slips from the house whenever Elinor’s back is turned. And in Pine Hollow, calls about a dog herding cars on Main Street go straight to Levi. The quietly intense lawman broke Elinor’s heart once, and now she’s determined to move on, no matter how much she misses him.

As the kid who barely graduated—and still struggles to hide his dyslexia—Levi always believed that Elinor was way out of his league. Even though he ended their engagement all those years ago, Elinor still takes Levi’s breath away whenever he sees her. But with a little help from a four-legged friend, Levi and Elinor may just get the second chance they deserve.

This was such a cute second chance romance! I’m always very 50-50 about second chance romances- sometimes I love them (like with this one) and sometimes I absolutely hate them, so I’m really glad that this one was in the “I love it” category. Elinor and Levi were characters that we had kinda gotten to know in books one and two, but I didn’t realize just how much we didn’t know them until I started reading To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before. I loved getting to know them, learning their backstory, finding out about their failed engagement, and everything like that. I also really liked how Levi was pretty much the only person who was able to get Dory back every time she escaped and how throughout the book, she ended up becoming the police station’s/the first responder’s unofficial mascot. I also really liked how we got to see how life was going for our friends Ally, Ben, Connor, and Deenie (and Astrid of course). That’s one of my favorite things about books that are set in the same world- they aren’t always about the same characters, but at least we get to see how everyone is doing. In terms of plot and tempo and that kind of stuff, I thought it was pretty good- can’t really complain. There were a couple of times where I was like… wait, how is Lizzie Shane telling us this now when we still have so much left in this book? But she was able to make everything flow together so well. I cannot wait to read the next book later this year and I cannot wait for y’all to read all of these books and tell me all of your thoughts! Go grab them now!
