2019 was an interesting year. I started off really strong and really loving all things reading and books and all of that stuff, and by the time the end of the year came around, I didn’t really want to read any more. I was in a huge slump. I didn’t want to post on bookstagram anymore- heck I hadn’t even opened my bookstagram in over 2 weeks! But, as I go back through 2019 now, it doesn’t seem as though it was that bad a reading year. I read 82 books, which wasn’t too bad! This year my goal was to read less than I normally do so that I could spend some time doing other things and I think I achieved that. I now am a regular at my cycling studio, so that’s a plus. I’ve also been able to spend more time with my family and friends and I’m working with a real estate agent to buy a house for myself.
In 2019, I gave out 351 of 410 possible stars and read 34647 pages. I didn’t read any books that were less than three stars and only 7/82 of my reads this year were 3 star reads for me.
Here were my 5 star reads from 2019:
A Reaper at the Gates – I LOVE all of the books in this series and I cannot wait for book 4!!!
The Wicked King – I absolutely hated the Cruel Prince, so I wasn’t expecting to like, the Wicked King, but I was so wrong.
Roar – Bee bought me Roar for Christmas 2017 and I FINALLY got around to reading it in 2019 and it was AMAZING!!!
Accidentally on Purpose – I loved so many of the Heartbreaker Bay books by Jill Shalvis last year 😍
About that Kiss – I loved so many of the Heartbreaker Bay books 😍
Hot Winter Nights – I loved so many of the Heartbreaker Bay books 😍
Wicked Saints – I read Wicked Saints at a point in time when it was exactly what I needed. I know a lot of people didn’t really enjoy it, but I loved it when I read it.
King of Fools – I enjoyed Ace of Shades, so I was super excited to read King of Fools and it was amazing!
Deathcaster – I love this series and Deathcaster was the perfect way to end it!
Six of Crows – I had been meaning to read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom for so long and I finally read them in 2019 and I loved them! The hype around them is definitely warranted.
Crooked Kingdom – see above
Finale – ah man Finale was the so bittersweet- I loved the book, but I was so sad to be leaving the world of Caraval!
Illuminae – I had been seeing great things about Illuminae for a while all over Twitter and instagram, so I finally (after my third time trying to read it) forced myself to get farther than the 11% mark and I’m so glad I did!
The Rest of the Story – I’ve been a Sarah Dessen fan for years now so I was looking forward to her new book as soon as it was announced and like usual, I loved it!
Immunity – Ahhhhh I LOVED Contagion last year, so I was the most excited about Immunity and it was so, so good!
Obsidio – Obsidio was such a great way to end the Illuminae Files and I couldn’t put it down!
One of Us is Lying – This murder mystery was so fun and different, I couldn’t help but love it
Spin the Dawn – I had heard so many good things about Spin the Dawn and I definitely agreed with all of them after reading it
Vow of Thieves – I loved Dance of Thieves, so I was super excited to read Vow of Thieves, and it was so good!
The Silvered Serpents – The Silvered Serpents KILLED me- I died with how amazing it is and I’m so sad that y’all have to wait until September to read it.
Five Dark Fates – There were so many weird twists and turns in this book that I never saw coming that I couldn’t help but love it.
Roomies – Roomies was my first Christina Lauren book and OMG I loved it! It made my want to read all of their other books and spoiler alert, I loved ALL of them!
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating – After reading Roomies, I went onto Scribd and looked for all of the other Christina Lauren books and Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating was the next one I read and it was so cute! I loved both Josh and Hazel.
Dating You/Hating You – Dating You/Hating You was probably my least favorite of all of the Christina Lauren books I read, but it was still a five star read for me.
My Favorite Half Night Stand – Ahhhh I loved the characters in this one and as someone who has done a lot of online dating, I related to that aspect of this book a lot.
Love and Other Words – This one was probably the heaviest of the Christina Lauren books that I read and it was sooooo goood!
Twice in a Blue Moon – This book was good and different and all about second chances with a small touch of Hollywood mixed in.
The Wickerlight – This book was so different from all of the other books I read in 2019 and that’s why I liked it so much.
Skyward – Ahhh my favorite sci fi baby of 2019- I always forget how much I enjoy myself a great space book until I read a great space book and Skyward was definitely one of those great space books.
The Queen of Nothing – What a good way to end this wonderful trilogy. I HATED the Cruel Prince and then I LOVED the Wicked King, so I had no clue how I was going to react to the Queen of Nothing, but I know (based on reactions on Twitter) that it killed other people, so I was a little worried, but I shouldn’t have been because it was definitely really good and I enjoyed it for sure!
So that’s how my 2019 was in 5 star books. We’ll see how 2020 turns out, but I have high hopes!
