OMG y’all- thank you sooooooo much to Inkyard Press for asking me to be a part of the Queen of Volts blog tour (and their Fall Reads Blog tour in general)! And thank you so much to Inkyard and Netgalley for letting me read a copy of it early! Queen of Volts came out last week, on September 1st, with about a million other books, so make sure you go check it out! I absolutely loved Ace of Shades and King of Fools, so I knew I was going to love Queen of Volts, but did I know just how much I was going to love it? Definitely not. Now, just as a warning, since Queen of Volts is the third book in this trilogy, there are going to be spoilers for books one and two in my review, so if you haven’t read Ace of Shades or King of Fools, one, what are you doing? Go read them now! And two, you probably don’t want to read my review for Queen of Volts.
Can y’all believe that it’s already April??? My allergies can for sure! For those of you who don’t follow me on Instagram, I got tested for my allergies last week and I’m super allergic to all kinds of dust/dust mites and cats and I’m pretty allergic to lots of trees, weeds, and molds, so, you know, allergies all year round! My tree allergies are really bad in the spring, so that’s what’s going on for me outside the book world.
Let’s talk about the books I read this month! Overall. March was a little slow for me reading wise- there were a lot of other things going on in my life this month (Harry Potter world! Getting Sick! Getting an updated role at work! College Basketball), so reading was not always as prioritized as it normally is. I was able to finish 7 books this month:Read More »
So, it’s been a while since I last posted a real review (oops) instead of just a monthly TBR/wrap-up/update, so I figured, let’s fix that. I was approved for a copy of King of Fools by Amanda Foody on NetGally (woop woop, thanks Harlequin Teen!) and it’s taken me longer to finish than I’d like to admit. Not because of anything wrong with the book (I reallllyyyy liked it), but 100% because I’m a person who is always reading too many books at once. So now onto the book!
Ugh I miss real summers. I miss long days of field hockey training and pre-studying for fall classes. I miss late nights with friends and days spent by the pool. I miss unlimited reading time. If you can, put off being a read adult for as long as possible. These days, my summers are filled with meetings and workshops and entirely too much work! I feel like I end up reading LESS during the summer, because somehow work is always so crazy during the summer! I’ve been reading the Smoke Thieves (which is great, by the way) for over a week now, and I’m still less than half way through it because of work and working out and commitments. I need a vacation where all I’m doing is reading!
Ace of Shades 4/5 Stars
Earlier this month, I finished Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody and it was so good! I think the whole rival gangs and ousted monarchy things are great and I love the whole Vegas feel that the city of New Reynes was giving off. This was one of those books that I hadn’t read or seen too many actual reviews of, but I had seen the cover almost everywhere, so I pretty much just picked it up because of that. I think the premise of you last names being your dominant and non-dominant abilities is super cool. I also really loved the interplay between Levi and Enne. And the plot twist in the middle? Man, even though I was expecting it, I still really, really liked it! I cannot wait to read the next one!
Have you read Ace of Shades yet? What did you think about it?
