Happy August y’all! I haven’t written a wrap up post in so long but this month I was like you know what, I read so many great books in July- I have to talk about them! I’m going to have reviews going out about some of these books later this month, so keep an eye out for those (I’ll make sure to call them out). Let’s get started!Read More »
Happy Friday y’all! This has been a busy week for me- lots going on, so I didn’t have time to prep this First Line Friday in advance, but I knew exactly which book I wanted to feature, so that’s a plus!
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
Now, onto the line!Read More »
Happy October y’all! October is such a great month- we start fall, the weather becomes beautiful, and Halloween!!! September, on the other hand, was not a great month for me- I had a two day work training, my business unit got re-organized out of no where, I had to get my wisdom teeth removed, and I had to take a week long business trip, so I definitely didn’t stick to my September TBR very well (mainly because I went on a crazy Christina Lauren kick at the end of the month)
Here are the books I read in September:
The Silvered Serpents – I love, love, loved this book! I should be publishing a review for this one soon!
Crown of Feathers – I really enjoyed listening to this book and I can’t wait for book two.
Fireborne – Fireborne was definitely interesting and I should be publishing a review for this one soon too.
Five Dark Fates – I love these books and I definitely think that Five Dark Fates was better than Two Dark Reigns
Roomies – This book began my obsession with Christina Lauren’s books and her writing! SO GOOD
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating – I really liked this book too- Christina Lauren is so good at creating fun characters
Dating You/Hating You – This book was so cool- I loved learning about talent agents and man, I love Carter and Evie!
My Favorite Half-Night Stand – I love books about ridiculously smart people who are super oblivious haha
Love and Other Words – this was probably the slowest Christina Lauren book I read, but it was still really good and I loved it for sure!
In October, I’d like to read:
Serpent and Dove – I’m listening to this right now and it’s so good!
Bloodwitch – I’ve been reading Bloodwitch for what feels like ever right now, but I’m liking it for sure.
Sensational – I loved Spectacle, so I’m super excited to read Sensational
Bid My Soul Farewell – I loved Give the Dark my Love, so Bid My Soul Farewell has been high on my list for a while. I started it when it came out, so I should hopefully be finishing it this month!
King of Scars – I feel like I’ve been reading King of Scars forever- not because I’m not enjoying it, but because other things seem to be carrying my attention more. I’m going to try and make it a priority to finish it this month though!
The Merciful Crow – The Merciful Crow is going to be my next audiobook as soon as I finish Serpent and Dove!
Sisters of Shadow and Light – I have an e-arc of this one from NetGalley right now, and since it comes out in early November, I’m going to read it and have my review done by the end of the month.
Twice in a Blue Moon – I was just accepted to review this one over on NetGalley and with my love of Christina Lauren books going strong, this is definitely going to be one of my first reads of the month.
Lair of Dreams – It’s FINALLY time for me to try and get to this book- especially since it’s fall and spooky and this book is so nice and creepy!
What are y’all reading this October?
Man, August was not my best month reading wise (and I can’t even think of a reason for why!)- I only read 6 books in August. They were all pretty good though, so I can’t really complain. And ugh, September has not really been my month yet (which is why this wrap up and TBR post is 10 days late) – we’re 10 days into the month and I’ve only read 1 book!
Here’s what I read in August:
The Traitor’s Kingdom – Ahhh I’m obsessed with this series and I LOVED this book!!!!
The Kingdom – The concept of the Kingdom was so interesting and I really enjoyed reading it! I’m super excited for book 2!
Spin the Dawn – Ahhhh I loved this book! Be on the lookout for my review soon!
Gravemaidens – Gravemaidens was a really interesting book and a great debut for author Kelly Coon. Be on the lookout for my review closer to when the book comes out!
Vow of Thieves – I loved these books and this world and honestly everything about it- what a great end to this duology!
A Thousand Fires – This was a book that wasn’t on my radar until I saw it on NetGalley and requested it. It’s really different from other things I normally read, but I still really enjoyed it. Be on the lookout for a review closer to the release date.
Here’s what I want to read it September:
The Silvered Serpents – Technically, I’ve already finished this and it was SO GOOD!!!! I cannot wait for y’all to read it! I’ll be reviewing this one in the next few weeks or so!
Rage – Ahhhhh I loved Roar so much so I’m really looking forward to reading Rage!
Bloodwitch – I love the Witchlands books and I read Sightwitch a couple of months ago, so now I’m finally going to get to Bloodwitch.
King of Scars – Will this be the month I finally read King of Scars? Maybe!
Crown of Feathers – I’m listening to the audiobook of Crown of Feathers right now and it’s so good! I only have about 2 hours left, so woooo almost done!
Fireborne – I have an e-arc of this one from NetGalley, so I hope I’ll be able to read it this month.
Five Dark Fates – Ahhhh it’s finally time to get back to my favorite triplets! I can’t wait to see what this final installment has in store for us!
What all are y’all planning on reading in September?
Hey y’all! Can you believe that it’s already the end of June?! I feel like this year, every time I write up one of these wrap up posts, I’m always so surprised by how fast time is passing (which is why all of my wrap up posts normally begin with “can you believe it’s already ______?”).
For some reason, work is always weirdly busy during the summer months and I’ve had a couple of all day workshops and after work activities recently and product launches and website refreshes, so I feel like I’m reading slower than I normally read.
May started out as a really slow reading month, but then I went on a trip for work, and man, I ended up getting a lottttt of reading done while on my trip! I ended up reading 8 books in May, and I actually really enjoyed most of them! Read on to see what I read and what I’m planning on reading in June!
Man, April went by so fast and so slowly at the same time! The first half of April was great for reading- I finished 5 book!- the second half of April? Not so much. I only read one book in the second half of April! Also, the first 10 days of May went by SO FAST that I wasn’t able to get this blog written and up until now! I’m blaming work.
In April, I read:
The Queen’s Resistance 4.5/5 Stars
Deathcaster 5/5 Stars
Ash Princess 4/5 Stars
Dark Shores 4/5 Stars
Storm and Fury 4/5 Stars
Six of Crows 5/5 Stars
So overall, rating wise, I read some pretty good books in April!
Picking my May TBR has been so hard because I’ve been super unmotivated to read. So far, in the first 10 days of the month, so much has happened in my non-bookish life that reading has definitely taken a backseat (and I’m trying to catch up on Game of Thrones and since I’m super behind, that’s throwing a major wrench into everything). I finished Crooked Kingdom already this month, so yay for one book completed! I absolutely loved Crooked Kingdom (and Six of Crows!), so I’m hopefully going to be writing a review for both of those books soon!
Here are the other books I’m planning on reading this month:
King of Scars
The Evil Queen
Crown of Coral and Pearl
An Anatomy of Beasts
A Discovery of Witches
Once A King
I’m going on a work trip later this month, so we’ll see how much reading I can get done during that. What all are y’all reading this month?
Oh man, I’m BARELY getting this in before Wednesday ends (work is really busy these days because it’s conference season) but this is one of my most important Waiting on Wednesdays (not only because it’s both my first WoW and it’s the last Wednesday I can talk about waiting on this book since it comes out next week), so we’re going to make it work!
Last year, I finally introduced myself to the Grishaverse by reading the Shadow and Bone trilogy and man, it was such a great decision. I can’t believe it took me so long to get to it! I loved Nikolai and the Darkling is such a great villain! Did I really care about Mal and Alina? No, not really- but I don’t think that mattered as much as loving the world and what was happening in it. Which is why I’m so crazy excited about King of Scars! I don’t have to see Mal and Alina but I get to be in Ravka with the Grisha! And Nikolai! If you’re living under a rock and don’t know what it’s about (or you just want to read it again), I’ve included the link to the goodreads page above!
I bough a ShelfLoveCrate exclusive box (and I’m so crazy excited for it!!!), which I will definitely be unboxing over on instagram and I will probably be writing a review of that box here!
Are y’all excited for King of Scars? Let me know your thoughts below!!!
