Update: Books left to read in 2021 (and beyond)

Happy Monday y’all! I hope everyone had a great weekend (whether you celebrate Christmas or not- my family celebrates the commercialized version of Christmas where we get each other gifts, but we’re not Christian, so we don’t do any of the religious aspects). The weather was gorgeous here all weekend, so we spent a good amount of time outside (my dog loved running around in the backyard, terrorizing the squirrels). All of that family time and enjoying the outside time meant one very important thing though- no time to read! I have quite a few books I need to catch up on (lots of books sent to me from Forever and Grand Central Publishing that I need to read and review) and I have a good number of books to get ahead of for 2022- 3 of my ARCs come out on the 4th and I have 7 that I need to read for the 18th, plus I have 6 books checked out from the library, and there are some backlist ARCs that I was hoping to get to before the end of the year, so lots of reading to do!

Let’s talk through the books I’m (hopefully) going to be reading in the next week (so through January 3rd, which I know goes into 2022, but shhh, for this exercise, I’m going to count them):

Library books

My local library is my favorite place, so I always have entirely too many books checked out from there. Here are the ones I’ve got out now.

  1. Skin of the Sea: This one is actually due in 2 days and I started it this morning and I’m about 60 pages in and even though it was super hyped and everyone I know who read it loved it, I’m not liking it yet, so it’s looking like I’m going to pause my reading and either come back to it before the due date or just DNF it.
  2. Kingdom of the Cursed: I’m about 20% into this one right now and it’s really good so far! I’m excited to see where it goes, but I’m also slightly worried about it falling into middle book syndrome, so we’ll see what happens- if I have time between all the other books I have to review, I’ll see if I can get a review out for y’all for this one at some point!
  3. A Certain Appeal: I know little to nothing about this book, but it looked cute, so I checked it out. I’ll see how it ends up being whenever I get to it!
  4. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: Y’all know I’ve been really into murder mysteries and thrillers, so I’m super excited to read this one!
  5. Beasts of Prey: This one has been super hyped/all over book twitter and bookstagram, so I finally was able to check out my hold of it! If I can (schedule wise) I’ll try and get a review in of this one too.
  6. The Grimrose Girls: I’ve wanted to read this one for a while, but I haven’t had time yet, so I’ve renewed it a couple of times- thankfully I still have a month left on this one, so it’s probably going to end up being a later in January read.

Books that Forever and Grand Central Publishing (GCP) sent me

I have been very fortunate this year to have become part of the Forever and GCP influencer program. They’re all so good to me and I love their books, so I always have so many books to read from them! Right now, these are the ones on my list:

  1. Once Upon a Puppy: I finally had time to read The Twelve Dogs of Christmas (the first book in this series), so now I’m chugging along with book two and soon I’ll read book three (the next one in this list). Be on the lookout for reviews for all three of these books sometime soon!
  2. To All The Dogs I’ve Loved Before: This is book three in the series I mentioned above (the Pine Hollow series) and I cannot wait to read it as soon as I’m done with Once Upon a Puppy!
  3. Christmas at Silver Falls: I got the Christmas bundle from Forever and I didn’t have time to read it before Christmas, so I’ll read it before New Year’s (hopefully)! I don’t know much about this one, but I’m sure it’ll be amazing.
  4. Mistletoe Cottage: This was a part of the Christmas bundle from Forever and again, no idea what it’s about (besides, you know, the obvious), but I’m sure it’ll be great!
  5. The Christmas Village: Another Christmas bundle book- once again, I’ll be going in blind, but excited! I’ll be reviewing all three of the Christmas bundle books, so be on the lookout for those!
  6. Winter Water: This is a GCP thriller that I was sent that’s a little different for me, but it looks so cool. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to it this week (I’m already getting overwhelmed and I’m not even finished with my list), but I’ll definitely be reading it soon.
  7. The Rebel and the Rake: This one comes out tomorrow, so even though I know I won’t be able to read it and review it in time for release day, make sure y’all grab it tomorrow because it’s going to be amazing! And then we can all talk about it once I finish and write my review!

Upcoming ARCs

I’ve got my three books that are coming out on the 4th that I need to finish, so those are top of mind. You’ll definitely find reviews for these sometime that week:

  1. Love at First Spite
  2. In Every Generation
  3. The Kindred

If I have time, I might also start:

  1. Bound by Firelight
  2. Daughter of the Moon Goddess

Backlist ARCs

I have a lot of backlist ARCs from 2021 that I need to read from Netgalley, but I know I’m probably not going to get to them all this week (or any time soon), but the ones I might try and get to this week are:

  1. What the Cat Dragged In
  2. How to Survive a Modern Day Fairy Tale
  3. Meet Me in London

So there you have it- the 21 or so books I’m looking at finishing in the next week or so. I’ll check back in next Monday to let y’all know how things end up going. Do y’all have any big reading plans for the next week?
